CITY FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to Rathpeacon junior footballers on winning the City Divison Junior football championship last evening in Ballinlough against Ballinure. In a close fought tussle, the first half ended in a 0-02 to 0-02 draw at half time. The second half saw Rathpeacon make some excellent tactical switches and strong substitutes that ultimately won the game. A Ballinure goal half way through the second half put them ahead by 1-04 to 0-06 but Rathpeacon kept fighting until the bitter end and pushed through with a strong finish to kick on and win by 0-10 to 1-06. Thanks for the large turnout from the supporters!
Congratulations to man of the match Evan Murphy for an outstanding u performance.

City championship semi final win

On a blustery night in Ballinlough last evening, Rathpeacon Junior footballers came from behind and showed some great character to beat Nemo in the semi final of the city championship, on a scoreline of 2-08 to 0-13. In a fiercely contested game, a first half goal by Sean Ahern, and a bullet of a goal & point by Evan Murphy marauding from midfield kept the scoreline ticking against the wind with a half time score of 2-02 to 0-10. Paul O’ Neill was a big loss to inury in first half, but a strong bench of subs (notably John Anderson, John Galvin & Matthew Cotter) helped the cause greatly. An excellent defensive display from the likes of Brendan Ahern, Richie O’ Riordan, Dermot Hurley, Donal O’ Neill & Eoin O’ Leidhin kept Nemo to only three points in the second half. Cormac O’ Neill was majestic in the air with excellent pin point accurate kick outs from Gary Aherne on goal. The rest of the forward line of Martin O’ Sullivan, Colin Bevan, Conor Dalton and John Wiseman kicked some marvellous points in the second half & were a constant thorn in Nemo’s defence with intelligent movement and running off the ball.

Rathpeacon now march on to the final next Monday evening, 26th August, against Ballinure @ 7pm in Ballinlough.
All support from Rathpeacon greatly appreciated as always.
